Mapping and Measuring the Global Bioeconomy

Component 1 builds on and complements existing initiatives aimed at improving the knowledge base by compiling and analyzing information on drivers and outcomes of bio-based transformations in a publicly available data base and map server application. These data will also serve as a basis for Component 2 and 3.

AIMS

  • To improve the interdisciplinary knowledge base for the assessment of sustainable bioeconomic growth
  • To identify and measure drivers of bioeconomic transformation and impacts on UN Sustainable Development Goals

WORK IN PROGRESS

  • Collection, analysis and management of indicators important for the characterization of Bioeconomies and the assessment of their sustainability
  • Development of a typology of Bioeconomies based on a cluster analysis
  • Matching of the Bioeconomy Typology against existing national Bioeconomy strategies

NEXT STEPS

  • Assessment of the sustainability of different Bioeconomies for a selected set of SDGs and identification of trade-offs
  • Integration of data in the global map server application of the SEI
